Russian Railways is ready to provide transport support to XXIX World Winter Universiade
At the moment, 23 pairs of long-distance trains operated by the Federal Passenger Company, a subsidiary of OJSC Russian Railways, provide transport support for sports delegations and fans.
In Krasnoyarsk, a new-generation of EP3D series electric trains transport passengers to the sports facilities at the Universiade. Russian Railways, together with the Universiade’s Directorate, have drawn up a special timetable for electric trains in the city, which is coordinated with the start and finishing times of the events. As a result, Krasnoyarsk residents, visitors and fans will be able to make use of 58 daily intra-city electric trains, including 21 routes to the sport facilities and venues.

Sports delegates and fans will arrive at Krasnoyarsk’s modernised railway station, which fully meets the requirements of barrier-free environment and security. An automated passenger information system, the Smart Station and the Electronic Queue systems, have been installed. Waiting rooms and platforms have been fitted with 50 new electronic displays, visual navigation has been updated and information is broadcast in Russian and English. Security is provided by four inspection zones and 437 video cameras. A high level of convenience is created by the five elevators connecting the basement and first and second floors, a sports ground, a play area for children and a new VIP hall.
During the Universiade, Russian Railways’ volunteers will be working at the station. A special information desk equipped with a touch-panel will enable passengers at the station to get acquainted with the map of the city, find a route to their desired destination and purchase tickets.
The Company has also opened a new railway station in Abakan, which has the status of a backup station for the XXIX World Winter Universiade. The building has an area of ,1400 square metres, a waiting room for 107 people, an information desk, a first-aid post, rest rooms for disabled passengers and a mother and child room. The station is fully adapted for people with limited mobility and is equipped with automatic passenger information systems. Abakan is in full compliance with transport safety requirements.
As part of the development of the project City Electric Train by OJSC Russian Railways, 7 new stations have been built in Krasnoyarsk, including Bobrovy Log and Tikhy Zory. The first stop is located near the Bobrovy Log ski complex, the second is next to the Platinum Arena Krasnoyarsk sports complex, where the XXIX World Winter Universiade will open on 2 March.
The City Electric Train stops at 29 stations linking Krasnoyarsk and Divnogorsk and the city centre and its outskirts. In preparation for the Universiade, 15 platforms and 3 small stations have been upgraded at Divnogorsk, Yenisei and Zlobino stations.
By the opening of the XXIX World Winter Universiade in Krasnoyarsk, OJSC Russian Railways will have constructed and modernised a total of 28 railway infrastructure facilities at a cost of 3.7 billion roubles.
