Main construction and installation work completed at Saransk and Ruzaevka stations

On 9 April 2018, the Saransk and Ruzaevka railway stations in the Republic of Mordovia were inspected after major construction and installation works there were completed in advance of the FIFA 2018™ World Cup.

The inspections were made by Vitaly Votolevsky, the head of the Directorate of Railway Stations at OJSC Russian Railways, Vladimir Sushkov, the Chairman of the Government of the Republic of Mordovia, and other officials.

“When implementing this project for the World Cup, we not only got the railway infrastructure ready, but also took into account the wishes of our clients and the administration of the Republic of Mordovia. We therefore actually rebuilt the pedestrian bridges across the railway lines,” said Vitaly Votolsky during the inspection of the station complexes. “This integrated approach ensures not only comfortable waiting times at the station itself, but also convenient movement around the station before boarding the train.”

Vitaly Votolovsky also noted that Russian Railways pays special attention to providing a barrier-free environment and ensures that the railway station infrastructure is fully adapted to low-mobility passengers. The station has been equipped with ramps, tactile strips, a separate sanitary room for low-mobility passengers, new covered pedestrian bridges equipped with special lifts and lifting platforms for convenient movement.

As part of the reconstruction of Saransk and Ruzaevka stations, the cash desks and waiting rooms, sanitary rooms and medical facilities were renovated.

The stations are also provided with free access to a Wi-Fi network and charging stations for mobile devices with various connectors.

In addition, the passenger platforms have undergone repairs, with the roofing replaced and lighting installed.

Much attention was also paid to the provision of transport safety and security, information and navigation equipment, including the improvement of the passenger information system. Electronic signs and navigation signs were installed and announcements over the public address system are now made automatically in two Russian and English.

At Saransk station, a new inspection pavilion has been built and equipped with X-ray introscopes, metal detectors and a video recording system.

The pavilion is capable of handling over 1,500 people per hour.

During the World Cup, Ruzaevka railway station will see a temporary inspection pavilion installed at the entrance to the bridge from the city side, which will increase the station’s capacity by more than 1,000 people per hour.

The engineering networks at the stations were also modernised, including the heating and electricity supply and the heating, ventilation and water supply, as well as security, fire fighting, the alarm system and the evacuation system.

At the stations, work continues on improving the areas surround the actual station buildings such as the forecourts and parking.
