In 2017 Russian Railways purchased more than 1 million tons of rails

In 2017, Russian Railways acquired 1.0563 million tons of rails.

The Company purchased 719,800 tons from the EVRAZ holding and 329,000 tons from OJSC MECHEL , aswell as about 7,500 tons of rails produced by the Aktyubinsk Rail and Beam Plant LLP (ARBZ,Kazakhstan).

New rails are used by Russian Railways both for new construction and for railway track repairs.

For laying track on sections which carry an especially high load or high-speed trains, 100-metre longdifferentiated thermo-hardened rails are used. In 2017, Russian Railways acquired 529,300 tons of suchrails, including 315,800 tons produced by MECHEL, 206,000 tons made by EvrazHolding LLC and 7,500tons produced by ARBZ.

Differentiated thermo-hardened rails 25 m long and other rails were also purchased.

In 2016, Russian Railways purchased 947,700 tons of rails, including 404,600 tons of differentiatedthermo-hardened rails with a length of 100 m.
