Loading volumes of export freight to Russian ports up by almost 9% in October 2017

This year has seen a steady growth in the volume of freight transportation for export through Russian ports.

In October 2017, total loading volumes for Russian ports exceeded 25 million tons, 8.9% more than in October 2016.

The loading volume of export freight dispatched to the ports in Russia’s North-West in October amounted to about 11 million tons, an increase of 11.7% compared to the level of October 2016.

About 6.3 million tons were shipped to the ports of Russia’s south, up by 9.4% on October 2016, while the loading volume to the ports of Russia’s Far East region amounted to 8.1 million tons, an increase of 5.2%.

In January-October 2017, total loading volumes to Russian ports amounted to 241.2 million tons, 6.2% more than during the same period last year. In particular, the volume of coal loaded increased by 10.4%, fertilisers by 10.3%, grain by 56.3%, paper by 7.5% and coke by 63.8%.

Coal makes up the bulk of the exports, accounting for 48% of the total, followed by oil at 27%, ferrous metals at 8%, fertilisers at 7% and grain at 3%.
