RU EN

The railway section "World Railway Network: The Coming Future" opened in the framework of the XIX World Festival of Youth and Students (WFYS) in Sochi on 16 October 2017.

Russian presidential aide Igor Levitin, Russia’s Minister of Transport Maxim Sokolov, the President of Russian Railways Oleg Belozerov and the Vice-President of the GEFCO group Phil Shankley, as well as the representatives of the International Union of Railways, took part in the opening ceremony and the subsequent panel discussion.

During the panel discussion, the participants discussed the new challenges facing rail transport, the problems of developing new logistics chains and transport corridors, freight and passenger transportation, and the competitiveness of rail transport in relation to other modes of transport.

"Under the influence of modern technologies, transport is changing fundamentally. The ideology of the Digital Railway, which is now being introduced at Russian Railways, is called upon to meet new challenges. Its widespread use will change radically the principles of our work and the very idea of the work of people employed on the railways," said the President of Russian Railways.

Answering questions from participants regarding the prospects of completing the modernisation of the Baikal-Amur Mainline and the Trans-Siberian Railway, Oleg Belozerov noted that the project was developing at a rapid pace and that the Company expects to complete it ahead of schedule.
