Prospects for cooperation on railway transport between Russia and India discussed in Vladivostok
On 6 September 2017, Russian Railways’ First Vice-President Alexander Misharin took part in the business dialogue “Russia – India: New Opportunities” being held at the Eastern Economic Forum.
In addressing the Forum, Misharin noted that India and Russia’s railways have much in common in terms of strategic cooperation, the economic and social development of both countries and the implementation of joint initiatives.
According to the First Vice-President, OJSC Russian Railways has already gained invaluable experience in increasing train speeds on existing infrastructure using the most modern technologies.
In June 2017, the first step was taken regarding full-scale cooperation between Russia and India by the signing of an agreement on the joint development of a feasibility study for increasing train speeds on the existing 575-km Nagpur-Secunderabad line. This project is aimed at increasing train speeds up to 200 kph and is based on the experience gained in increasing the speed of Sapsan trains on the St. Petersburg - Moscow section.
“There is huge potential for cooperation between Russia and India. The implementation of joint projects will bring the most positive results, significantly increase carrying capacity and provide the necessary level of traffic safety,” stressed Alexander Misharin, First Vice President of OJSC Russian Railways.
