Passenger numbers on the network of Russian Railways increased by 9% in August 2017
According to the latest figures, in August 2017 101.98 million passengers were transported on the infrastructure of Russian Railways, 9% more than in August 2016. Suburban passenger numbers amounted to 89.58 million, an increase of 10.8%, while long-distance passengers fell 2.2% to 12.4 million.
Passenger turnover in August 2017 amounted to 16.17 billion passenger-km, 4.1% less than during August 2016. Suburban passenger turnover amounted to 2.94 billion pass-km, an increase of 2.2% on August 2016, while long-distance passenger turnover was down 5.4% to 13.22 billion pass-km.
During January-August 2017, a total of 735.3 million passengers were transported, 9.3% more than January-August 2016. Long-distance passenger numbers were down 0.7% to 70.3 million, while suburban passengers amounted to 665 million, an increase of 10.5%.
Passenger turnover on the network of Russian Railways since the beginning of 2017 decreased by 2.3% compared to the previous year and amounted to 85.2 billion pass-km. Suburban passenger turnover was up to 21.1 billion pass-km, an increase of 3.1%, while long-distance passenger turnover fell 4% to 64.1 billion pass-km.
In January-August 2017, the Moscow Central Ring (MCC) carried 68 million passengers, including about 9.3 million trips in August.
The MCC set a new record for passenger transportation when it carried 382,900 people on 31 August 2017, the highest figure since it was opened on 10 September 2016.
