OJSC Russian Railways and Railways of the Slovak Republic sign memorandum of cooperation
During talks between Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and Slovak Republic Prime Minister Robert Fico, a memorandum on cooperation was signed between OJSC Russian Railways and the Railways of the Slovak Republic on 2 June 2015.
The memorandum was signed by Vladimir Yakunin, President of Russian Railways, and Dušan Shefchik, Managing Director of Railways of the Slovak Republic. It was signed to facilitate the development and expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation on transit freight on Eurasian transport corridors.
The partners intend to increase the attractiveness of rail container transport by improving the transportation process and technical equipment, introducing new technologies and implementing electronic data exchange for international freight shipments.
Areas of cooperation include the development of rail transport corridors between Europe and Asia via Russia and Slovakia; the optimisation of container transport conditions and technologies, including by organising regular trains running on a timetable; the creation of competitive tariff conditions and the expansion of the network terminal and storage facilities on the main transportation routes.
The parties will also continue to develop and implement joint projects to modernise existing and construct new railway infrastructure, including a draft plan to extend the broad gauge railway line to Bratislava and Vienna and to establish an international logistics centre.
