Russian Railways' network loaded 103 million tons in March 2015

According to the latest information, the Russian Railways' network loaded 103 million tons in March 2015, 1.3% less than in March 2014.

Freight turnover in March 2015 amounted to 199.8 billion tariff ton-kilometres, an increase of 0.6% compared to the same month last year. Freight turnover taking into account empty wagon runs in increased by 0.7% March 2015 to 257.3 billion ton-km.

According to the latest information, loading during January-March 2015 amounted to 292.1 million tons, 0.6% less than in the first three months of 2014.

The railways shipped the following goods during January-March 2015. Figures in brackets show the percentage change compared to January-March 2014.

coal – 80.3 m tons (+4%);

coke – 2.8 m tons (-2.8%);

oil and petroleum products – 65.9 m tons (-0.5%);

iron and manganese ores – 26.6 m tons (+0.7%);

ferrous metals – 18.7 m tons (+7%);

ferrous metal scrap – 3 m tons (+11.6%);

chemical and mineral fertilisers – 12.9 m tons (-1%);

cement – 5.3 m tons (-9.1%);

timber – 10.1 m tons (+2.4%);

grain and milled products – 4.6 m tons (+29.8%);

construction materials – 23.9 m tons (-22.1%);

non-ferrous ores and sulphur feedstock – 4.8 m tons (+3.9%);

chemicals and soda – 6.5 m tons (-2.6%);

industrial feedstock and moulded materials – 7.2 m tons (-1%).

Freight turnover since the beginning of 2015 amounted to 562.8 billion tariff ton-km, up 0.2%, while freight turnover based on empty wagon runs increased to 724.6 billion ton-kilometres, an increase of 0.2%.
