Loading volumes on Russian Railways network amounted to 1.3 billion tons in 2019

Loading volumes on the network owned by Russian Railways amounted to 1.2781 billion tons in 2019, 0.9% less than last year.

The railways loaded the following categories of freight in 2019. Figures in brackets show the percentage changed compared to 2018:

coal - 372 million tons (-0.8%);

coke - 10.8 million tons (-4.3%);

oil and petroleum products - 232 million tons (-1.9%);

iron and manganese ores - 120.2 million tons (3%);

ferrous metals - 73.8 million tons (-5.6%);

ferrous metal scrap - 14.7 million tons (-7.7%);

chemical and mineral fertilisers - 60.5 million tons (2.2%);

cement - 26.3 million tons (4.7%);

timber - 42 million tons (-8.1%);

grain - 21.7 million tons (-20.1%);

construction materials - 124 million tons (0.2%);

non-ferrous ores and sulphurous raw materials - 19.6 million tons (-0.5%);

chemicals and soda - 26.1 million tons (-1.1%);

industrial raw materials and moulded materials - 35 million tons (-0.9%).

Freight turnover in 2019 amounted to 2,601.3 billion tariff ton-km, an increase of 0.2% on 2018. Freight turnover taking into account empty wagon runs was 3,304.4 billion tons-km, which corresponds to the figure of 2018.

Loading on the Russian Railways network in December 2019 amounted to 106.7 million tons, which is 2% less than the same month in 2018.

Freight turnover in December 2019 fell by 2.9% compared to the same month of last year and amounted to 218.4 billion tariff ton-km. Freight turnover taking into account empty wagon runs decreased by 3.5% during the same period and amounted to 275.6 billion tons-km.
