President of JSC Russian Railways Oleg Belozerov Attended the Opening of the Golubinci–Ruma Railway Section (Republic of Serbia)
Today President of JSC Russian Railways Oleg Belozerov is on a working visit to the Republic of Serbia.
Together with Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia, Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlović and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Serbia Alexander Chepurin, he traveled on the new track from Golubinci station to Ruma station in a Russian-made diesel train. This trip was the start of train traffic on the line.
Addressing the distinguished guests at the event, president of JSC Russian Railways noted the following:
"Today I am pleased to take part in the opening of the Golubinci–Ruma railway line, as well as attend the signing of the additional agreement to the contract for the reconstruction of Serbian Railways. This project is very important for us, and it is not by chance that it is one of my first trips abroad. We are seeing tangible results and very good prospects for development not only in the field of investment, but also in the joint training of Russian and Serbian railway workers. I am sure that in the course of further negotiations we will be able to find new projects for mutually beneficial cooperation".
From February to September 2015, RZD International performed a full range of works on the reconstruction of the railway infrastructure at the Golubinci–Ruma site: a complete upgrade of the lower and upper structure of railway track for over 19.7 km was carried out; 7 turnouts were replaced; 5 road crossings were renovated; and 10.8 km of drainage channels, 1.3 kilometers of drainage systems, and the Kraljevci stopping point were constructed.
Reconstruction of the Golubinci–Ruma railway section allows trains to safely travel at a speed of up to 120 km/h, the current limit being 30 km/h. After the right railway track is put into operation, RZD International will perform work on the left portion of the path, including the reconstruction of crossings and the construction of the second stopping point at Kraljevci.
In January 2013 an agreement was signed in Moscow for Russian state export credit to the Republic of Serbia for the modernization of Serbian Railways. The loan amount is $800 million and the total cost of infrastructure projects is about $940 million.
The contract between RZD International and JSC Serbian Railways for the construction of the railway infrastructure and the supply of diesel trains was signed on May 23, 2013. The contract includes the following:
- the construction and electrification of 15 km of the second track of the Belgrade–Pančevo railway line,
- the reconstruction of the six sections of Pan-European corridors with a total length of 112 km,
- the reconstruction of existing track and the construction of a second track on the new Stara Pazova–Novi Sad railway (44 km),
- the reconstruction of the Serbian section of the Belgrade–Bar railway line with a total length of 200 km.
After the project is completed, the speed of trains on the upgraded areas will increase from 30–50 km/h to 120 km/h and there will be more traffic and higher safety.
The intergovernmental agreement with Metrovagonmash will provide Serbian Railways with diesel trains.
