Oleg Belozerov, President of Russian Railways, held a working meeting with a delegation of the China Railway Corporation (CREC) headed by the Chairman of the Board Li Changjin. The meeting took place in Moscow on 27 May 2016.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed cooperation on railway transportation, in particular, Chinese participation in implementing the Moscow - Kazan high-speed rail project, which is a top priority according to the President of Russian Railways.

"We consider this project to be a highly important stage in developing the Moscow - Beijing high-speed corridor. In addition, we see it as the infrastructure basis for Eurasian economic integration and the development of the Silk Road Economic Belt," said Oleg Belozerov.

The President of Russian Railways also noted that at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum in 2015, a Russian-Chinese consortium involving OJSC Mosgiprotrans, OJSC Nizhegorodmetroproekt and the China Railway Eryuan Engineering Group Co. Ltd. signed a contract to design the Moscow - Kazan high-speed railway, one of the largest investment projects in modern Russia.

Oleg Belozerov stressed that the engineering surveys needed for the preparation of the project documentation should be completed in June 2016 and that meeting the deadlines was one of the key factors in implementing the project, along with the quality of the work. For his part, Mr. Li Changjin assured his Russian partners that the Chinese experts would make every effort to ensure that work was completed on schedule.

The Chinese side also expressed interest in further participating in the construction of the Moscow - Kazan high-speed railway, as well as other promising rail construction projects in Russia.
