* The trends in freight wagon turnaround times are directly related to the change in the structure of the working fleet. Empty rolling stock not used in the transport process had a negative impact on the increase in wagon turnaround. In April 2020, the empty wagon fleet exceeded last year’s level by 19.7% or 112,900 wagons. Every day, more than 285,000 empty wagons stood idle on the Company’s infrastructure and non-public railway lines without being used for more than 3 days in operations, which is twice as many as in the same period last year.

The wagon turnaround time is the period spent on the operational cycle from the moment that one loading is completed to the moment the next loading is finished or to the wagon’s delivery or return in a loaded or empty state, that is, the average time the wagon spends on one shipment. This is the main indicator of the quality of the freight wagon fleet’s utilisation.
