Freight loading volumes on network owned by Russian Railways increased by 3.1% in November 2021

Freight loading volumes on the network owned by Russian Railways in November 2021 amounted to 108 million tons, 3.1% more than in the same month last year and 2.4% more than in November 2019.

In November 2021, freight turnover increased by 3.6% compared to the same month last year and amounted to 225.6 billion tariff ton-kilometres. Freight turnover taking into account empty wagon runs increased by 3.2% over the same month, rising to 283.9 billion ton-km.

Freight loading volumes in January-November 2021 amounted to 1,1744 billion tons, 3.3% more than in the same eleven-month period last year.

The railways loaded the following categories and volumes of freight during the period from January to November 2021. Figures in brackets show the percentage change compared to January-November 2020.

  • coal – 340.7 million tons (+6.2%);
  • coke – 10.9 million tons (+6.8%);
  • oil and petroleum products – 197.7 million tons (+3.9%);
  • iron and manganese ores – 110.3 million tons (+0.5%);
  • ferrous metals – 62.8 million tons (+3.9%);
  • ferrous metal scrap – 15 million tons (+15.5%);
  • chemical and mineral fertilisers – 59.2 million tons (+3.4%);
  • cement – 24.9 million tons (+5.4%);
  • timber – 38.7 million tons (+3.9%);
  • grain – 22.6 million tons (-8.5%);
  • construction materials – 117.6 million tons (-4.3%);
  • nonferrous ores and sulphur feedstock – 18.2 million tons (-1.5%);
  • chemicals and soda – 22.2 million tons (-0.5%);
  • industrial raw materials and moulded materials – 32.5 million tons (+3.8%);
  • miscellaneous freight, including containerised cargo – 101.2 million tons (+7.2%).

Freight turnover since the beginning of 2021 amounted to 2,416.4 billion tariff ton-km, an increase of 4.2%. Freight turnover taking into account empty wagon runs increased by 3.6% to 3,041.2 billion ton-km.
