Passenger traffic on Russian Railways’ network down 67.6% in May 2020
According to the latest figures, 33.6 million passengers were transported on the infrastructure owned by Russian Railwaysin May 2020, 67.6% less than in the same month last year. Suburban commuter services carried 31.6 million passengers, down 66.4% on May 2019, while long-distance trains carried 2 million passengers, a decline of 78.9%.
Passenger turnover in May 2020 amounted to 2.5 billion passenger-kilometres, 76.5% less than in the same month of 2019. Suburban passenger turnover amounted to 1 billion pass-km, a decline of 66.6%, while long-distance passenger turnover was 1.5 billion pass-km, a fall of 80.5%.
The infrastructure owned by Russian Railways carrieda total of 320.6 million passengers from January to May 2020, a decline of 31.3% compared to January-May 2019. Long-distance passenger numbersfrom January to May 2020 amounted to 26.3 million, a decline of 36.1%, while the total number of commuter passengers during the same five months last year totalled 294.3 million, a drop of 30.9%.
Passenger turnover on the Russian Railways network since the beginning of 2020 has decreased by 34.6% compared to the same period last year and amounted to 29 billion pass-km. Commuter passenger turnover amounted to 9 billion pass-km, a decrease of 31.3%, whilelong-distance passenger turnover fell 36% to 20 billion pass-km.
