Loading volumes on Russian Railways’ network amounted to 100.5 million tonsin May 2020

According to the latest figures, the loading volumes on the network owned by Russian Railways amounted to 100.5 million tonsin May 2020, 5.4% less than in the same month last year.

Freight turnover in May 2020 decreased by 6.6% compared to the same month last year and amounted to 209.9 billion tariff ton-kilometres. Freight turnover taking into account empty wagon runs decreased by 6.9% during the same month and totalled265.4 billion ton-km.

According to the latest figures, loading volumes during January to May 2020 amounted to 508 million tons, 4.5% less than during the same period last year.

The railwaysloaded the following categories of freightduring January to May 2020. The figures in brackets show the percentage change compared to January to May 2019.

  • coal – 141.7 million tons (-11%);
  • coke– 4.5 million tons (-1.9%);
  • oil and petroleum products – 91.9 million tons (-5.3%);
  • ferrous and manganese ores– 49.8 million tons (+0.4%);
  • ferrous metals – 28.7 million tons (-10.9%);
  • ferrous metal scrap – 5 million tons (-10%);
  • chemical and mineral fertilisers– 25.9 million tons (+1.9%);
  • cement– 8.8 million tons (-8.8%);
  • timber – 17.6 million tons (-5.9%);
  • grain – 9.6 million tons (+14.9%);
  • construction materials – 51.1 million tons (+4.2%);
  • non-ferrous ore and sulphurous raw materials– 8.2 million tons (+1.4%);
  • chemicals and soda – 10.5 million tons (-5.1%);
  • industrial raw materials and moulded materials– 12.8 million tons (-8.4%).

Freight turn over since the beginning of has 2020 amounted to 1,040.4 billion ton-km of tariffs, a decline of 5.5%compared to January to May 2019. Freight turn over taking in to account empty wagon runs was 1,319 billion ton-kilometers, a decrease of 5.9%.
