Passenger traffic on network owned by Russian Railways up 22.1% from January to September 2021
According to the latest figures, the infrastructure of Russian Railways transported 92.3 million passengers in September 2021, 2.8% fewer than in the same month last year. Suburban passenger numbers decreased by 4% to 84.6 million, but long-distance passengers were up 12.9% to 7.7 million.
Passenger turnover in September 2021 amounted to 9.3 billion passenger-kilometres, 11.8% more than in September 2020. Suburban passenger turnover was down to 2.6 billion pass-km, a decline of 1.5%, while long-distance passenger turnover was up 18.1% to 6.7 billion pass-km.
Between January and September 2021 Russian Railways carried a total of 788.4 million passengers, up 22.1% compared to the same three quarters in 2020. Long-distance passenger numbers rose to 72.3 million, an increase of 37.6%, while suburban passengers were up 20.7% to 716.1 million.
Passenger turnover on the Russian Railways network since the beginning of 2021 has increased by 34.9% compared to the same period last year and amounted to 82.3 billion pass-km. Suburban passenger turnover was up to 22 billion pass-km, an increase of 18.3%, while long-distance passenger turnover rose to 60.3 billion pass-km, up by 42.3%.
