Freight loading volumes on network owned by Russian Railways up 10.2% in June 2021

Freight loading volumes on the network owned by Russian Railways amounted to 107 million tons in June 2021, 10.2% more than in the same month in 2020 and 5.4% more compared to June 2019.

Freight turnover in June 2021 increased by 8.5% compared to the same month last year and amounted to 214.5 billion tariff ton- kilometres. Freight turnover taking into account empty wagon runs increased by 6.9% over the same month and amounted to 268.8 billion ton- km.

Freight loading volumes during January-June 2021 amounted to 632.7 million tons, 4.6% more than in the same period last year.

During January-June 2021, the railways loaded the following categories of freight. The figures in brackets show the percentage change compared to the same six month period between January and June 2020.

  • coal – 185.5 million tons (+ 10.4%);
  • coke – 5.7 million tons (+ 5.9%);
  • oil and petroleum products – 106.6 million tons (-0.4%);
  • iron and manganese ores – 59.4 million tons (+ 0.3%);
  • ferrous metals – 34.4 million tons (+ 1.4%);
  • ferrous metal scrap – 8 million tons (+32.3%);
  • chemical and mineral fertilisers – 32.6 million tons (+4.7%);
  • cement – 12.2 million tons (+7.2%);
  • timber – 21.6 million tons (+3.1%);
  • grain – 12.3 million tons (+15%);
  • construction materials – 61.7 million tons (-2.3%);
  • nonferrous ores and sulphuric feedstock – 9.9 million tons (+0.1%);
  • chemicals and soda – 12.2 million tons (-1.8%);
  • industrial raw materials and moulded materials – 17 million tons (+ 8.9%);
  • miscellaneous freight, including cargo in containers – 53.8 million tons (+ 6.9%).

Freight turnover since the beginning of 2021 amounted to 1,302.8 billion tariff ton-kilometres, an increase of 5.2%.

Freight turnover taking into account empty wagon runs was up 4.6% to 1,643 billion ton-kilometres.
