The main route of Corridor No. 2 runs between Berlin, Warsaw, Minsk, Krasnoye, Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod.карта Транссиба

In the future, traffic volumes along the corridor will largely be determined by the implementation of Russian Railways’ strategic programmes and projects, which are aimed at attracting goods traded between Europe and Asia (primarily China) to the Russian Railways network.

The following factors may have the greatest impact on the growth of freight volumes on the Russian section of the pan-European Transport Corridor No. 2:

  • implementing the Trans-Siberian in 7 Days strategic programme, which provides for the development of transit freight traffic through the Russian Railways network through a set of measures to attract Eurasian trade cargoes to the Trans-Siberian Railway;
  • developing trade and economic ties between Russia and the countries of Central Asia with Germany, Poland and other Western European countries;
  • developing the United Transport and Logistics Company (UTLC);
  • implementing the Moscow – Kazan high-speed rail project.

In addition, based on the need to develop future traffic volumes, the General Scheme for the Development of the Railway Network of JSC Russian Railways for the Period up to 2020 and beyond until 2025 provides for a number of measures to expand the carrying capacity of the infrastructure.
