1896 - Railway Day established as a professional holiday

Railway Day was the first professional holiday in Russia. It was established in 1896 and dedicated to the birthday of Tsar Nicholas I, 25 June, when the construction of railways in Russia began.

Railway Day was celebrated on 25 June every year until 1917. On their holiday, railway workers and staff rested, and as a rule a gala reception and concert were held in the evening in the hall of Pavlovsk Station at Tsarskoye Selo Railway.

After 1917, the holiday was forgotten almost twenty years.
