Russian Railways’ network carried over 1 billion passengers in 2021
According to the latest figures, in December 2021 the infrastructure of Russian Railways transported 88.9 million passengers, which is 20.4% more than in the same month of the previous year. Suburban passengers amounted to 82.3 million, an increase of 19.4%, while long-distance passenger numbers rose to 6.6 million, up by 34.8%.
Passenger turnover in December 2021 amounted to 7.1 billion passenger-kilometres, 27.2% more than in December 2020. Suburban passenger turnover amounted to 2.4 billion pass-km, an increase of 25.3%, while long-distance passenger turnover rose to 4.7 billion pass-km, which was up 28.2%
In total, Russian Railways carried 1.0534 billion passengers in 2021, 20.8% up on the 2020 figure. Suburban passengers amounted to 961.4 million, an increase of 19.5%, while long-distance passenger numbers rose to nearly 92 million, up by 36.4%.
Passenger turnover on the network owned by Russian Railways increased by 32.4% in 2021 compared to the previous year and amounted to 103.4 billion pass-km. Suburban passenger turnover was over 29 billion pass-km, up 17.7%, while long-distance passenger turnover amounted to 74.4 billion pass-km, an increase of 39.2%.
