RZD Holding interested in third contract for reconstruction of Serbia’s railways
Sergei Pavlov, the First Deputy Managing Director of Russian Railways, has had a meeting with Tomislav Momirovic, the Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Serbia, as well as with Nebojša Šurlan, the Acting Managing Director of Serbian Railways Infrastructure JSC. The meeting took place in the Serbian capital Belgrade.
The three participants discussed the progress in the implementation of the contracts currently underway.
The Serbian side expressed satisfaction with the results of cooperation, while Sergei Pavlov confirmed the obligations of the Russian Railways’ Holding to ensure that the infrastructure of the Stara Pazova – Novi Sad section will be ready for testing and the subsequent start-up of traffic by the end of the year.
The Russian and Serbian colleagues also discussed the joint steps that need to be taken to create the Republic of Serbia’s Unified Railway Control Centre (UDC). Russian experts are already completing the UDC’s project documentation. The proposed design solutions will make it possible to make the UDC the basis for the vertical management of Serbian Railways and in addition incorporate the possibility of developing its functionality.
Another topic discussed at the meeting was the project for the reconstruction of the Valjevo – Vrbnica section of the Belgrade – Bar line. RZD International LLC, a subsidiary of Russian Railways, is currently carrying out the design work for the Valjevo – Vrbnica section with the involvement of the German company DB E&C. Results from a survey of the railway infrastructure made it possible to start discussions with the Serbian side on the project’s cost parameters. It is planned to start drawing up the contract in the first quarter of 2022.
