Russian Railways and ESP jointly to develop container shipments

Russian Railways and the Eurasian Union of Rail Freight Traffic Participants (ESP) have reached an agreement on the joint development rail container traffic.

Oleg Belozerov, the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Russian Railways, and Sergei Maltsev, Chairman of ESP’s Presidium, signed a corresponding memorandum today in Moscow during Transport Week.

The purpose of the memorandum is to organise joint work in order to increase the volume of container traffic, including transit shipments.

The two parties intend to carry out coordinated work to promote Russian transport services and increase the loyalty to rail container traffic across the entire network of 1520 mm broad gauge track and optimise the technological and informational interaction and cooperation of participants in the transportation process at all levels, including at the junctions and interfaces of sea – port – rail.

Also planned is the joint development of the rail transportation of goods in specialised containers, including tank containers, refrigerated containers, thermos containers and containers for bulk cargo, as well as cooperation on the development of modern types of railway rolling stock, such as platforms for the shipment of large-tonnage containers and piggyback transportation.
