Transportation in luggage compartments on North Caucasus Railways increased 62% in the first half of 2021

During January to June 2021, passengers booked 3,200 tickets to transport baggage in specialised compartments of trains operated by the North Caucasus branch of the Federal Passenger Company, 62% more than in the same period last year, when the figure was almost 2,000.

In total, over the six months of this year to the end of June 2021, about 5,000 seats in specialised compartments were booked for the transportation of personal belongings, 49% more than in January-June last year.

The transportation of personal belongings in luggage compartments is traditionally popular with passengers. The service enjoys stable demand because on booking it, the luggage travels on the same train with the owner.

Baggage transportation can be arranged at ticket offices, including by presenting purchased e-tickets.

The service can also be ordered on the Russian Railways website when purchasing train tickets or for an e-ticket purchased earlier. When issuing an electronic carriage ticket, the passenger is issued a control coupon for the electronic baggage receipt with the details of the carriage, which s/he must then print out.

Baggage is checked into a separate compartment immediately upon boarding the train upon presentation of the printed control coupon.

Passengers should remember that up to three pieces of baggage per passenger are accepted in the luggage compartment. The three dimensions of each piece of baggage (width, length and height) should not total more than 180 cm and the weight of each must be less than 75 kg. The total allowable weight of luggage is up to 200 kg, according to the corporate communications service of North Caucasus Railways.
