Russian Railways transported 869.4 million passengers in 2020
According to the latest figures, Russian Railways carried 71.2 million passengers in December 2020, 28.9% less than in the same month in 2019. Suburban commuter passengers amounted to 66.3 million, 27.7% fewer than in December 2019, while long-distance passenger numbers were down 42.2% to 4.9 million compared to the analogous month in the previous year.
Passenger turnover in December 2020 amounted to 5.5 billion passenger-kilometres, 41.5% less than in the analogous month of 2019. Suburban passenger turnover amounted to almost 2 billion pass-km, a decline of 29.9%, while long-distance passenger turnover was down 46.4% to 3.5 billion pass-km.
In 2020, Russian Railways transported a total of 869.4 million passengers, down 27.4% on January-December 2019. Long-distance passenger numbers fell by 42.1% to 67.5 million last year, while suburban passengers were down 25.8% to 801.9 million.
Passenger turnover on the network owned by Russian Railways decreased by 41.5% in 2020 compared to the previous year and amounted to 78 billion pass-km. Suburban passenger turnover fell to 24.7 billion pass-km, a decline of 28%, while long-distance passenger turnover amounted to 53.3 billion pass-km, a fall of 46.2%.
