Passenger traffic on network owned by Russian Railways decreased by 16% in September 2020
According to the latest figures, in September 2020 the infrastructure of Russian Railways transported 88.2 million passengers, 16% fewer than in the same month last year. Suburban commuter passengers amounted to 81.5 million, a decline of 14.3%, while long-distance passenger numbers were down to 6.7 million, a decrease of 32%.
Passenger turnover in September 2020 amounted to 8.2 billion passenger-kilometres, 32.2% less than in the same month in 2019. Suburban commuter passenger turnover amounted to 2.6 billion pass-km, a decline of 18.2%, while long-distance passenger turnover was down 37.1% to 5.6 billion pass-km.
In total, the infrastructure of Russian Railways transported 639 million passengers from January to September 2020, a drop of 28.7% compared to January-September 2019. Long-distance passengers were down 42% to 52.4 million passengers, while suburban passenger numbers fell 27.3% to 586.6 million.
Passenger turnover on the network owned by Russian Railways has decreased by 41.9% since the beginning of 2020 compared to the same nine-month period last year and amounted to 60.8 billion pass-km. Suburban passenger turnover fell to 18.5 billion pass-km, a decline of 28.4%, while long-distance passenger turnover was down 46.3% to 42.3 billion pass-km.
