Russian Railways planting 20 hectares of forest in Irkutsk region
Russian Railways has organised a large-scale planting of seedlings in the Khomutovsky forest in the Irkutsk region. The environmental event began on 10 September as a compensatory forest plantation that was planned during the design of the Baikal Tunnel.
Along with railway staff and volunteers, the heads of East Siberian Railways and the Irkutsk Region are also taking part in the forest restoration.
In September, more than 40,000 pine seedlings will be planted across an area of 20 hectares in the Irkutsk and Khomutov forests.
