Oleg Belozerov: “Full publicity is our key principle in the field of ecology”
Oleg Belozerov, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Management Board of Russian Railways, held a meeting on the Company’s performance in the last eight months of 2020 with the heads of railways.
The CEO noted that passenger traffic in August continued its gradual recovery, when the decline in the indicators compared to 2019 decreased to 39.3% against 54% in July. An upward trend was also visible in freight traffic, said Belozerov, as freight turnover in August increased by 0.8% compared to August 2019, while loading decreased by only 0.8%, much less than the 3.9% fall in July.
The Company head also spoke about the priority areas with regard to environmental protection and stressed that the implementation of modern environmental protection measures was an integral part of all the work carried out at Russian Railways.
“We were the first among Russian companies to set the bar so high on public commitments to apply the best environmental practices, unconditionally implement all environmental requirements, and take additional protective measures, including the elimination of accumulated damage,” said Oleg Belozerov.
He also noted once again that Russian Railways was focusing special attention on nature protection zones, such as the territory of Lake Baikal, and will continue to do so.
The head of the Company also designated full publicity as a key principle in the field of ecology.
“Our position is to make all decisions based on the minimum possible interference with nature and involve environmental organisations and regional authorities under strict public control,” emphasised the Company head.
