Passenger numbers on network owned by Russian Railways decreased 26.2% in July 2020
According to the latest figures, the infrastructure owned by Russian Railways carried 80.9 million passengers in July 2020, 26.2% less than in July 2019. Suburban commuter services carried 74 million passengers, a decline of 22.6% compared to July 2019, while long-distance passenger numbers amounted to 6.9 million, a decrease of 50.8%.
Passenger turnover in July 2020 amounted to 7.7 billion passenger-kilometres, 55% less than in July 2019. Suburban passenger numbers amounted to 2.4 billion pass-km, a fall of 23.4%, while long-distance passengers were down 62.2% to 5.3 billion pass-km.
In the first seven months of 2020, Russian Railways carried a total of 462.2 million passengers, a decline of 32.4% on January-July 2019. Commuter passenger numbers were down 45% to 36.6 million, while long-distance passengers fell 31% to 425.6 million.
Passenger turnover on the Russian Railways network has fallen by 44.8% since the beginning of 2020 compared to the same period last year and amounted to 41.5 billion pass-km. Commuter passenger turnover was down to 13.3 billion pass-km, a decline of 31.7%, while long-distance passengers numbers fell 49.4% to 28.2 billion pass-km.
