Over 60% of tickets bought electronically in June as demand for long-distance tickets continued to rise sharply

In June 2020, passengers booked nearly 3.6 million electronic tickets for long-distance trains operated by the Russian Railways’ Holding, including high-speed Sapsan and Lastochka trains and the fast Strizh trains. This is twice as many as during the previous month of May thi syear. The proportion of electronic sales in June exceeded 60% of the total number of tickets sold as a whole acrossthe railway network.

In mid-May, Russian Railways resumed the sale of tickets 90 days before the departure of the train, thus enabling passengers to plan their journeys during the upcoming summer season and book tickets in advance.

In June, passengers booked 246,000 electronic tickets for Sapsan trains, which is almost 4.3 times more than in May. Electronic tickets accounted for 88% of total Sapsanticket sales. Since 24 June, Sapsan trains have once again been running according to the standard timetable and have been making up to 30 runs every day (at the weekend).

For the convenience of passengers, the Russian Railways Holding has updated the electronic ticket form to make it as informative and personalised as possible. Russian Railways is also continuing to develop its online services, so that, for example, passengers can book tickets for special compartments adapted for low-mobility citizens through the Company’s official website. Passengers can also pay for the transportation of additional hand luggage and bulk luggage etc.electronically.

The official RZD Passengers mobile app is available to users of smartphones using the Android and iOS operating systems and enables passengers to purchasetickets for long-distance trains and commuter services without commission, check information about previously purchased tickets, check the timetable and log in to the loyalty programme. Passengers can also use bonus points to book tickets on the app, track their bonus account and buy and apply transport cards. The app also provides passengers with the current cost of tickets for upcoming dates, enables them to navigate at train stations and find information about the actual movement of trains and answers to frequently asked questions (FAQs).

When buying electronic tickets for long-distance trains online, passengers have the option of registering electronically. After registration, passengers only need to present the identity document which was specified when they bought the ticket to the conductor when boarding the train.
