Passenger transport on the Russian Railways’ network down 46.7% in June 2020
According to the latest figures, 56.9 million passengers were transported on the infrastructure owned by Russian Railways in June 2020, 46.7% less than in the same month last year. Suburban commuter passengers amounted to 53.3 million, down 44.1%, while long-distance passenger numbers fell to 3.6 million, a decline of 68.2%.
Passenger turnover in June 2020 amounted to 4.4 billion passenger-kilometres, 67.6% less than in the same month of2019. Suburban passenger turnover fell to 1.7 billion pass-km, a decline of 46.3%, while long-distance passenger turnover was down to 2.7 billion pass-km, a decrease of 74%.
The Russian Railways’ infrastructure carried a total of 378.3 million passengers during the first half of 2020, a decline of 34.1% compared to the first six months of 2019. During January-June 2019, the infrastructure transported 29.8 million long-distance passengers, a decrease of 40.3%, while suburban commuter numbers fell to 348.5 million, down by 46.7%.
Passenger turnover on the Russian Railways network has decreased by 42.2% since the beginning of 2020 compared to the same period last year and amounted to 33.6 billion pass-km. Suburban passenger turnover amounted to 10.8 billion pass-km, a fall of 34%, while long-distance passenger turnover saw a decline to 22.8 billion pass-km, a decrease of 45.4%.
