Transportation of passenger vehicles on car carriers up by a third this summer
In summer 2021, specialised car-carrying wagons running as part of long-distance trains operated by the Federal Passenger Company, a subsidiary of Russian Railways, transported about 2,000 vehicles, 31.7% more than during the same period last year and 7% more than in the 2019 season.
The most popular destinations among passengers taking their vehicles with them were the Moscow – Adler and St. Petersburg – Adler routes, but the Khabarovsk - Novy Urgal route, which has been operating since March 2021, has also proved popular, with about 200 vehicles transported along this line during the 2021 summer season.
From January to the present, a total of more than 5,000 vehicles has been transported on car-carrying wagons, nearly twice as many as during the same period last year.
Since the car transportation service was launch in 2012, it has carried more than 36,700 cars and motorcycles.
