Passenger traffic on network owned by Russian Railways increased by almost 30% in July 2021
According to the latest figures, the infrastructure owned by Russian Railways transported almost 96 million passengers in July 2021, 26.8% more than in the same month last year. Suburban passenger numbers increased by 23.1% to 85 million, while long-distance passengers nearly doubled to 11 million.
Passenger turnover in July 2021 amounted to 13.4 billion passenger-kilometres, nearly twice as many as the same indicator in July 2020. Suburban passenger turnover increased by 19.1% and amounted to about 2.8 billion pass-km, while long-distance passenger turnover nearly doubled, rising to 10.7 billion pass-km.
In total, 600.6 million passengers travelled between January and July 2021, an increase of 31% compared to the same seven-month period in 2020. Suburban traffic totalled 547.4 million, up 30%, while long-distance passengers rose to 53.1 million, an increase of 46%.
Passenger turnover on the network owned by Russian Railways since the beginning of 2021 increased by 42.7% compared to the first half last year and amounted to 59.5 billion pass-km. Suburban passenger turnover rose by just over a quarter (+25.7 %) to 16.6 billion pass-km, while long-distance passenger turnover was 42.9 billion pass-km, an increase of 50%.
