Passenger traffic on network owned by Russian Railways more than triples in April 2021
According to the latest figures, the infrastructure of Russian Railways carried 90.8 million passengers in April 2021, more than three times the figure for the same indicator in the previous year, which stood at 27.9 million people.
The number of suburban passengers also increased more than threefold, from 26.3 million to 84.1 million, while long-distance travellers were up fourfold, from 1.6 million to 6.7 million.
Passenger turnover in April 2021 amounted to 7.2 billion passenger-kilometres, more than three times above the same indicator in 2020, which stood at 2.2 billion pass-km. Suburban passenger turnover also increased threefold, to about 2.5 billion pass-km, up from 0.8 billion pass-km in 2020, while long-distance passenger turnover rose almost 3.5 times to 4.7 billion pass-km from about 1.4 billion pass-km in 2020.
In total, 313.8 million passengers travelled in January-April 2021, an increase of 9.3% compared to January-April 2020.
Suburban passengers totalled 289.6 million, an increase of 10.2%, while long-distance passenger numbers remained at 24.2 million, the same level as last year.
Passenger turnover on the network owned by Russian Railways since the beginning of 2021 decreased by 2.8% compared to the previous year and amounted to 25.8 billion pass-km. Suburban passenger turnover stood at 8.4 billion pass-km, up 5.4%. Long-distance travel was down 6.3% to 17.4 billion pass-km.
