Global standing of JSC Russian Railways


Management of railway systems abroad

JSC Russian Railways has advanced technologies, which enable us to ensure efficient management of railway systems abroad. Currently underway are projects in Armenia and Mongolia.

Development of the Ulaanbaatar Railway (Mongolia)

2019 marks the 70th anniversary of the Ulaanbaatar Railway and new records of performance indicators: more than 15 billion tonne-kilometers of freight turnover and 1 billion passenger-kilometers of passenger turnover. The enterprises exists as a bilateral partnership between the governments of Russia and Mongolia, whereby JSC Russian Railways acts as trust manager of the 50% of shares of the Russian Federation.

Currently underway is the implementation of the project for the development of the Central Corridor Russia – Mongolia – China. In addition to that priority objectives of the long-term program for modernization and development have been ratified and envisage by 2020 a capital repair of railway tracks and major renewal of the rolling stock fleet of Ulaanbaatar Railway.

Concession management of the railway system of Armenia

In 2018 JSC South Caucasus Railway – a subsidiary of JSC Russian Railways dedicated to the management of the railway system of Armenia – ensured a 9% increase of transportation volumes to the figure of 2017 and launched passenger services on the Erevan – Gyumri line with a Russian-made electric train. Also underway are works to upgrade railway infrastructure and renew the rolling stock fleet.

Currently JSC South Caucasus Railway is drafting a Concept for the development and diversification of its activities, which will be aimed at accommodating the prospective freight flows in the Transcaucasia region.
