Developing the new Eurasian Transport Corridor
As part of the strategy of development of cooperation in international transport markets OAO "RZD" is working with partners to create a new project of the Eurasian transport corridor by extending the broad-gauge railway from Kosice (Slovak Republic) to the city of Bratislava, with access to the city of Vienna and the creation in the region Vienna-Bratislava international logistics center (hereinafter - the project).
The project is conducted in cooperation with the railway authorities and transport authorities in Austria, Slovakia and Ukraine on the basis of memoranda signed a joint venture Breitspur Planungsgesellschaft (hereinafter - JV), created in 2009.
In 2013, under the joint venture held an open tender for the preparation of the next phase of the feasibility study of the project "Engineering services for feasibility studies, route selection and routing, environmental analysis." The winner was announced a consortium of companies "Bernard" (Austria) - "Wahlbeck" (Slovakia) - "Obermayer" (Germany), who made the most preferable from a financial, technical and economic point of view the proposal. With a consortium contracted to perform these works with maturity in 2015-2016 years.
Simultaneously, through the joint venture and OAO "Russian Railways" the interaction with potential investors is a preliminary study of proposals for the financing and implementation of the project, as well as the formation of the business model and marketing strategy.
The purpose of the project - the connection of the railway system in Central Europe with the Trans-Siberian regions, attracting traffic to the route Asia - Russia - Central Europe and the competitiveness of rail transport.
The project will eliminate congestion at the stations splicing railway lines in Europe with broad gauge. Thanks to this halving delivery times of goods from Europe to East Asia as compared to the sea route (from 30 to 14 days).
For new railway lines and terminal gravitate many European countries: Slovakia, Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Slovenia, Serbia and Croatia.
Analysis of the location of the sources of natural resources and markets for finished products on a global scale indicates that the geographical location of the railway space with a width of 1520 mm provides a great resource for the development of transport of goods between Western Europe and East Asia.
Traffic volumes, according to preliminary estimates, could reach in 2025 more than 20 million tons. According to the projected road to Europe will be transported mainly containerized cargo.
The length of new railway line can reach more than 500 km.
