On December 17, 2009 JSC "Russian Railways" serves as a trustee for the Russian
stake in the company "Ulaanbaatar Railway".
Taking the road actually unprofitable, state close to bankruptcy, JSC "Russian Railways" company managed to get out of the crisis and stabilize the financial position of the JSC "Ulan Bator Railway", as well as to create conditions for its further development.
In particular, with the participation of JSC "Russian Railways" the volume of freight traffic on the Ulan Bator Railway in 2014 reached a historical maximum - 21.1 million tons.
Key performance indicators of JSC "Ulan Bator Railway" in 2009 also greatly improved: The Company continuously makes a profit and has a positive financial result. Results of activity of JSC "Ulan Bator Railway" show the effectiveness of the chosen approach to the joint management of a company which has an impact on the national economy of Mongolia.
In 2014-2015,. It was developed by "long-term program of technical development at the Ulan Bator Railway until 2020".
Modernization of the Ulan Bator Railway is to provide the necessary increase in capacity for cargo, primarily minerals from deposits of Mongolia to China and the Russian Far East ports, as well as for the growth of transit traffic between Russia and China.
September 3, 2014 during the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Mongolia Agreement was signed between JSC "Russian Railways" and the Ministry of Roads and Transport Mongolia strategic partnership for the modernization and development of the Ulan Bator Railway.
