Northern Railway

Operating length – 5,961.4 km.

Northern Railway serves Arkhangelsk, Vologda, Ivanovo, Leningrad, Kostroma, Kirov and Yaroslavl Oblasts, the Komi Republic and the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District.

Its Head Office is located in Yaroslavl. As the name suggests, Northern Railways operates mostly in the severe conditions of the Far North and the Arctic. 9,500 enterprises use the services of Northern Railways, including the Cherepovets Metallurgical Plant, oil refineries in Yaroslavl, and Ukhta, coal mines of the Pechora basin, the pulp and paper mills in Kotlas and Arkhangelsk and the Syktyvkar timber complex.

Northern Railway also helps ensure the stable operation of the Arkhangelsk commercial port and the Plesetsk cosmodrome and provides essential supplies to the oil and gas workers on the Yamal peninsula in North-West Siberia.
