Project Tabriz - Azarshahr

March 29, 2008 the heads of railways of Russia and Iran signed a contract for the project of electrification of the railway line Tabriz - Azarshahr.

As part of this project it was electrified railway line length of about 46 km and 5 railway stations. Due to the electrification significantly reduce fuel consumption and improve the efficiency and passenger comfort.

October 13, 2012 in the city of Tabriz with participation of railways of Russia and Iran held a ceremony of completion of the project Tabriz - Azarshahr.

Project Garmsar - Ince Burun

During the talks, the heads of railways of Russia and Iran, held in January 2014 in Tehran, the Iranian side proposed JSC "Russian Railways" to consider the possibility of participating in a number of infrastructure projects in the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Among the top priorities of the Iranian side was designated a project of electrification of the railway line Garmsar - Ince Burun (length - 495 km).

In order to promote the agreements reached at the present time JSC "Russian Railways" and Iranian Railways (RAI) conducted a set of measures on the signing of a contract for the implementation of the said project.

Project Rasht - Astara (Iran) - Astara (Azerbaijan)

The aim of the project of construction of the railway line Rasht - Astara (Iran) - Astara (Azerbaijan) is a compound of the land areas of the western branch of the international transport corridor "North - South".

The main advantages of ITC "North - South" to other routes and, above all, to the traditional sea route through the Suez Canal is to reduce travel times (up to 10 days for individual correspondence), as well as improving the economic efficiency of the Trans-Caspian multimodal route, which is currently time reduces the need for repeated transshipment.

Study conditions of this project is being JSC "Russian Railways" in conjunction with RAI and the Azerbaijan Railways (JSC "BR").
