Russian Railways Loading Growth Slows Down

During January-February 2019, Russian Railways loaded 205.4 mn tons of cargo, up just 0.9% year-on-year.

Coal loading grew 3.2% up to 63.1 mn tons. Oil and products, Russian Railways’ second most important commodity in terms of tonnage, changed little growing by 0.1% up to 39.5 mn tons.

Ferrous and manganese ore was up 8.1% to 19.1 mn tons, chemical and mineral fertilizers up 2% to 10.2 mn tons, ferrous metals up 0.5% to 12.7 mn tons, and coal and coke up 4.4% to 1.86 mn tons.

Other commodities loading decreased. Thus, construction cargo was down 7.6% to 16.8 mn tons, timber and logs down 0.3% to 7.1 mn tons, industrial and forming materials down 5.1% to 5 mn tons.

Cement loading declined by 3.5% down to 2.6 mn tons, non-ferrous ore and raw sulfur by 5.2% down to 2.96 mn tons, ferrous metal scrap by 4.9% down to 1.39 mn tons.

Chemicals and soda were down 3.9% to 4.3 mn tons, and grain down 8.3% down 8.5% to 4.1 mn tons.

In February, loading made 100 mn tons, up just 0.1% year-on-year and down 5.1% month-on-month.
