Loading volumes on the Russian Railways' network increased by 2.2% in July 2017

According to the latest figures, in July 2017 loading volumes on the network owned and operated by Russian Railways amounted to 106.6 million tons, 2.2% more than in July 2016.

Freight turnover in July 2017 increased by 5.1% compared to July 2016 and amounted to 208 billion tariff ton-kilometres. Freight turnover taking into account empty wagon runs increased by 5% during the same month of last year and amounted to 264.4 billion ton-km.

According to the latest figures, loading volumes during January-July 2017 amounted to 727.3 million tons, 3.3% more than during the same period last year.

During January-July 2017, the railways loaded the following categories of freight. Figures in brackets show the percentage change compared to January-July of 2016.

  • coal - 206.1 million tons (+ 9.8% 2016);
  • coke - 6.5 million tons (-1.6%);
  • oil and petroleum products - 137.5 million tons (+ 0.7%);
  • iron and manganese ores - 63.8 million tons (-0.2%);
  • ferrous metals - 41.3 million tons (-0.4%);
  • ferrous metal scrap - 8.5 million tons (+ 2.4%);
  • chemical and mineral fertilisers - 33.2 million tons (+ 8.5%);
  • cement - 15.4 million tons (-1.7%);
  • timber - 26.5 million tons (+ 3.9%);
  • grain - 10.5 million tons (+ 10.1%);
  • construction materials - 77.7 million tons (-6.7%);
  • non-ferrous ores and sulphur feedstock - 12 million tons (-2.3%);
  • chemicals and soda - 15.2 million tons (+ 2.2%);
  • industrial raw materials and moulded materials - 21.5 million tons (+ 11.6%).

 Freight turnover since the beginning of 2017 amounted to 1,433.7 billion tariff ton-kilometres, an increase of 7.1%. Freight turnover including empty wagon runs was up 6.7% to 1,829 billion ton-km.
