Loading on the network owned by Russian Railways increased by 3.4% in April 2018

According to the latest figures, loading on the network owned by Russian Railways in April 2018 amounted to 108.9 million tons, 3.4% more than in the same month last year.

Freight turnover in April 2018 increased by 5% compared to April 2017 and amounted to 215.5 billion tariff ton-kilometres. Freight turnover taking into account empty wagon runs during the same month increased by 5.1% and amounted to 274.6 billion ton-km.

According to the latest figures, loading during January-April 2018 amounted to 424.6 million tons, 3.4% more than in the same period last year.

The railways shipped the following categories of freight. The figures in brackets show the percentage change compared to January to April in 2017:

  • coal – 125.6 million tons (+4.8%);
  • coke – 3.6 million tons (-2.9%);
  • oil and petroleum products – 79.5 million tons (-1.2%);
  • iron and manganese ores – 36.9 million tons (+3.6%);
  • ferrous metals – 26.5 million tons (+10.9%);
  • ferrous metal scrap – 3.8 million tons (-6.8%);
  • chemical and mineral fertilisers – 20.3 million tons (+6.6%);
  • cement – 6.6 million tons (-4.1%);
  • timber – 15.5 million tons (+3.2%);
  • grain – 9.8 million tons (+45.6%);
  • construction materials – 40 million tons (-0.1%);
  • non-ferrous ores and sulphur feedstock – 6.4 million tons (-3.8%);
  • chemicals and soda – 9.1 million tons (+2.1%);
  • industrial raw materials and moulded materials – 11.1 million tons (+1.4%).

Freight turnover since the beginning of 2018 amounted to 852 billion tariff ton-kilometres, an increase of 4.8% on the same period in 2017. Freight turnover including empty wagon runs was 1,086.6 billion ton-km, up 4.4%.
