Transportation of passengers on the infrastructure owned by Russian Railways increased by 7.8% in 2017

According to the latest figures, in 2017 1.118 billion passengers were transported on theinfrastructure belonging to Russian Railways, an increase of 7.8% compared to 2016.

Long-distance passenger numbers were up to 102.3 million, an increase of 0.8%, while suburbanpassengers jumped 8.5% to 1.016 billion.

Passenger turnover on the network owned by Russian Railways decreased by 1.4 % in 2017 comparedto the level of the previous year and amounted to 122.8 billion pass-km. Passenger turnover on long-distance trains was down to 90.9 billion pass-km, a decline of 2.7%, while suburban passengerturnover was up to 31.8 billion pass-km, an increase of 2.5%.

According to the latest figures, in December 2017 92.3 million passengers were transported, 4.1%more than in December 2016. Suburban passengers amounted to 84.4 million, an increase of 3.7%,while long-distance passenger numbers rose to 7.9 million, up 8.5% compared to December 2016.

Passenger turnover in December 2017 amounted to 8.7 billion passenger-km, 2.9% more than in thesame month of the previous year. Long-distance passenger turnover amounted to 6.2 billion pass-km,an increase of 4%, while suburban traffic passenger turnover rose slightly to 2.5 billion pass-km, up0.3%.

In 2017, the Moscow Central Ring (MCC) carried almost 110.6 million passengers, including more than10.8 million trips which were made in December.

On 14 December 2017, a new record was set for passenger numbers on the MCC when 431,305people travelled, the highest figure since it was launched on 10 September 2016.
