Russian Railways' network loaded 103.4 million tons in October 2016

According to the latest figures, freight loading volumes on the rail network owned by Russian Railways amounted to 103.4 million tons in October 2016, 3.3% less than during October 2015.

Freight turnover increased compared to October 2015 by 1.8% and in October 2016 amounted to 202.5 billion tariff ton-kilometres. Freight turnover taking into account empty wagon runs increased by 2% in October 2016 and amounted to 259.6 billion ton-kilometres.

According to the latest figures, loading volumes from January to October 2016 amounted to 1.015 billion tons, 0.8% more than during the same period of 2015.

The railways loaded the following volumes and categories of freight during January-October 2016. The figures in brackets show the percentage change compared to January-October 2015:

  • coal – 268.5 m tons (+1.9%);
  • coke – 9.7 m tons (+4.1%);
  • oil and petroleum products – 194.2 m tons (-6.7%);
  • iron and manganese ores – 91.5 m tons (+0.8%);
  • ferrous metals – 58.6 m tons (-2.1%);
  • ferrous metal scrap – 12.6 m tons (-2.6%);
  • chemical and mineral fertilisers – 43.8 m tons (+3.4%);
  • cement – 23.7 m tons (-6.3%);
  • timber – 35.2 m tons (+6.7%);
  • grain – 14.9 m tons (+1.9%);
  • construction materials – 123.1 m tons (+11.3%);
  • non-ferrous ores and sulphur feedstock – 17.9 m tons (+4.7%);
  • chemicals and soda – 21 m tons (+2%);
  • industrial raw materials and moulded materials – 29.1 m tons (-0.9%).

Freight turnover since the beginning of 2016 totalled 1,934.4 billion tariff ton-kilometres, an increase of 1.5%, while freight turnover taking into account empty wagon runs amounted to 2,474.8 billion ton-km, up 1.3%.
