Freight transport between Russia and Kyrgyzstan increased by 8% to 2.4 million tons in 2018

The Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Russian Railways Oleg Belozerov has held a working meeting with the Managing Director of the State Enterprise Kyrgyz Temir Zholu [Kyrgyz Railways] Kanatbek Abdykerimov and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kyrgyzstan to Russia Alikbek Jekshenkulov.

During the meeting, the results and possible future directions for the development of cooperation between the railways of Russia and Kyrgyzstan were discussed. In particular, the dynamics of the increase in freight traffic between the two countries was noted as a positive result of cooperation. At the end of 2018, the volume of freight traffic between Russia and Kyrgyzstan increased amounted to 2.4 million tons, an increase of 8% on 2017.

The parties agreed to continue regular consultations, including at expert level, to discuss the further development of bilateral cooperation, in particular with regard to passenger traffic and updating the fleet of passenger carriages at Kyrgyz Temir Zholu, as well as developing Kyrgyzstan’s rail infrastructure.
