Russian Railways to begin implementing major infrastructure projects in 2018

The investment programme of Russian Railways will amount to nearly 550 billion roubles in 2018, said Oleg Belozerov, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Russian Railways.

Belozerov was speaking at the final Board meeting of the Company in 2017, which took place in Moscow on 13 December.

"We will start projects that were conceived many years ago, in particular the construction of the Northern Latitudinal Railway, which is one of Russia’s largest Arctic projects, while the logical continuation of the modernisation of Russia’s railway system in the Far East will be a transport link to the island of Sakhalin," said Oleg Belozerov.

In 2018, Russian Railways will continue work on the development of the Eurasia High-Speed Main Line and will begin developing a model for the implementation of the project and its feasibility study with partner countries.

"I want to emphasise that 2018 will be the first year in which we shall implement the approaches on which the "Long-term Company Development Programme until 2025" is based. We need to set out our priorities clearly, establish control systems and prepare the capacity needed so that we can implement our long-term investment programme. We cannot become a bottleneck in the economy," said the head of Russian Railways.
