Long-distance passenger numbers increased by almost 10% from January to September 2017
In the nine months of 2017 to the end of September, long-distance trains transported 4,020 vehicles in car-wagons, which is almost 10% more than during the same period last year.
The transportation of cars and motorcycles of rail passengers is one of the most popular additional services provided by the Federal Passenger Company, a subsidiary of Russian Railways.
At the same time, there has been a steady annual increase in the number of vehicles carried without accompanying passengers. The Federal Passenger Company transported 744 cars in 2013, 1,992 in 2014, 3,259 in 2015 and 4,703 in 2016.
Since the service was launched since 26 November 2012, more than 15,000 applications have been submitted for the transportation of vehicles in car wagons. A milestone was reached with a document for the transportation of a car on the St. Petersburg - Adler route on train No. 35.
The most popular routes for this service are Moscow - St. Petersburg, Moscow - Adler, St. Petersburg - Adler and Moscow - Helsinki.
