Loading on the network of Russian Railways increased by 0.4% in August 2017

According to the latest figures, loading volumes on the network owned by OJSC Russian Railways in August 2017 amounted to 106.2 million tons, 0.4% more than in August 2016.

Freight turnover in August 2017 increased by 4.9% compared to August 2016 and amounted to 208.2 billion tariff ton-km. Freight turnover of empty wagon runs increased by 4.9% in August 2017 and amounted to 265.1 billion ton-km.

According to the latest figures, loading during January-August 2017 amounted to 833.5 million tons, 3% more than in the same period in 2016.

The railways shipped the following goods during January-August 2017. Figures in brackets show the percentage change compared to January-August 2016:

  • coal - 234.4 million tons (+9.5%);
  • coke - 7.5 million tons (-2,7%);
  • oil and petroleum products - 156.7 million tons (unchanged);
  • iron and manganese ores - 73.3 million tons (+0,2);
  • ferrous metals - 47.4 million tons (+0.3%);
  • ferrous metal scrap - 9.9 million tons (+3.7%);
  • chemical and mineral fertilisers - 38 million tons (+8.4%);
  • cement - 18.5 million tons (-1.1%);
  • timber - 30 million tons (+3.6%);
  • grain - 12.4 million tons (+10.9%);
  • construction materials - 90.2 million tons (-7.8%);
  • non-ferrous ores and sulphuric feedstock - 13.8 million tons (-3.2%);
  • chemicals and soda - 17.3 million tons (+2%);
  • industrial raw materials and moulded materials - 24.4 million tons (+7.1%).

Freight turnover since the beginning of 2017 amounted to 1,642.2 billion tariff ton-km, an increase of 6.9%, while freight turnover including empty wagon runs increased to 2,094.4 billion ton-km, up 6.5%.
