President of Russian Railways instructs Company to provide quality service to fans during upcoming sporting events
On 7 March 2017, Russian Railways' President Oleg Belozerov held a conference call from Moscow to sum up the company's performance during January and February 2017.
Analysing the Company's freight operations, the President of Russian Railways said that in January and February, 196.1 million tons of goods were loaded, 3.8% more than during the same two months in 2016.
Speaking about the performance of the passenger complex, Oleg Belozerov noted the positive trends in passenger numbers on the "Day Express" trains, which carried over 1.67 million passengers during January and February 2017, an increase of 15% compared to the first two months of the previous year. Demand for double-decker trains continues to rise, with 410,000 passengers travelling, up 15% on the level of January and February 2016.
"We have to lay on passenger transportation for a number of major upcoming sporting events: the Confederations Cup will be held in June 2017, the 19th World Youth and Students Festival in Sochi in October this year, followed by the 2018 World Cup and the 29th World University Winter Olympiad in Krasnoyarsk in 2019. Russian Railways will be providing quality services to the spectators and participants at these events," the Company President said.
