Oleg Belozerov: "We need a locomotive with improved consumer qualities and digital operating solutions"
On 25 July 2019, a regular meeting of the Council for Cooperation between Russian Railways and Transport Engineering Enterprises was held at the Novosibirsk Electric Locomotive Repair Plant. It was chaired by the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Russian Railways, Oleg Belozerov.
In his opening remarks, the CEO noted that over the past 10 years, the Company had ordered over 5,000 locomotives and that the task of improving the quality and rhythm of factory repairs remained extremely relevant.
"Over the past three years we have successfully resolved a number of key issues regarding our cooperation. First of all, we have formed a long-term programme for the acquisition of locomotives down to 2025. This has ensured not only a balanced load, but has also accelerated the development of the capacities at Russian producers," said Oleg Belozerov.
According to Belozerov, this year the Company will adjust its procurement programme upwards, with plans to acquire 709 locomotives worth 92.5 billion roubles. The plan for 2020 is to purchase 670 units for 102.2 billion roubles.
Speaking about promising rolling stock models, the head of Russian Railways stressed that the Company needed a locomotive with improved consumer qualities and digital solutions for both its operation and maintenance.
"Russian Railways is creating a network of innovative sites and platforms to attract technology companies throughout Russia. We hope that such centers will help create new scientific and industrial ties. I ask you to become more actively involved in this work," Oleg Belozerov said.
Another driver should be the key digital solutions "Smart Locomotive" and "Trusted Environment of the Locomotive Complex," on the basis of which they will have to switch to technologies using little or no people and the fully digital control of the locomotive life-cycle processes.
As part of the meeting, Oleg Belozerov also familiarised himself with the work of the Novosibirsk Electric Locomotive Repair Plant, which is part of the Sinara Transport Machines holding, whose main activity is the capital overhaul and medium-level repair of ChS4T electric locomotives and the medium-level repair of 2ES electric locomotives. The plant also repairs locomotive line equipment.
